Honda Automotive Technology Workshop 2025: The New Era of Honda Mobility

 

At a media-exclusive session held at Honda’s Proving Ground in Tochigi, Japan, Honda unveiled the direction of its next-generation automotive technologies that will shape its products heading into the latter half of this decade.

The main focus? Electrification, safety, and most importantly, preserving the “Joy of Driving” in a new era.


Simply put, Honda does not want to be a brand that merely chases zero emissions. It wants to remain a brand that makes you smile every time you get behind the wheel.



Next-Generation Hybrid Platform – Lighter, Stronger, More Engaging

Honda introduced its next-generation hybrid platform, and this is not just an incremental upgrade—it is a full engineering revolution.

The body structure has been completely redesigned, resulting in a weight reduction of up to 90 kilograms. A new modular system allows more than 60 percent of components to be shared across multiple models.


More interestingly, Honda now applies a body rigidity management approach, where chassis stiffness is dynamically controlled to enhance stability.

In simple terms, the car’s body is engineered to “breathe” or flex subtly when cornering, distributing loads to the tyres more efficiently and delivering a more stable and confidence-inspiring driving feel.



Dynamic Control Technology – When Robotics Meets the Road

This is the part that makes Honda engineers grin—the Motion Management System.

Adapted from Honda’s robotics research and combined with Pitch Control, now integrated into the Agile Handling Assist system, the goal is straightforward: to help drivers control the car as if it were an extension of their own body.

The experience is akin to driving an analogue sports car, but with advanced electronics that understand the driver’s intent.


In a world where many modern cars feel like video games, this system ensures that every steering input feels authentic rather than simulated.



Large Hybrids & Small EVs – Two Worlds, One Philosophy

Beyond the mid-size platform, Honda also revealed a next-generation large hybrid system aimed at the North American market.

Featuring a new V6 engine, it is not only more efficient but also capable of matching the performance of large petrol-powered SUVs, complete with towing capability and up to 30 percent better fuel efficiency.



At the other end of the spectrum, the Super-One Prototype demonstrates that even small EVs can deliver a genuine “fun factor”.

Technology from this concept will form the foundation of Honda’s first production electric K-Car in Japan, scheduled to debut next year.



Joy of Driving in an Electric World

Honda continues to uphold its iconic M/M concept—Man Maximum, Machine Minimum—maximising space for occupants while minimising mechanical complexity.

This time, however, Honda goes further by injecting “emotion” into its electric systems.




These innovations are not just figures on a specification sheet. They represent Honda’s effort to preserve the spirit that made the Civic Type R, S2000, and Integra legends in the driving world—now reimagined in hybrid and EV form.

Electrification is not the end of fun-to-drive—at least not for Honda. What was showcased at the Technology Workshop 2025 was not merely a display of technology, but a clear statement that Honda is still fighting to protect its original DNA.
